Today, the Inside BlackBerry Blog announced that BlackBerry World has surpassed 100 000 apps, just in time for the U.S. Launch of the Z10. This is great news, because it shows that over 30 000 apps have been submitted in 7 weeks, which is outstanding. Today, Amazon Kindle, the Wall Street Journal, and OpenTable are available on BlackBerry World. This is great news, as the Kindle app in particular has been sorely missed for a long time by BlackBerry users. Also in the announcement, the Inside BlackBerry Blog announced that “In the coming Weeks” Amoung others, Skype, Viper, MTV News, Rdio, Soundhound, and EBay, will be released in BlackBerry World.
This is great news, and although I’m not a Kindle user (I’m still waiting for the Kobo app), it’s great to have it on BB10, and it will be great to have Skype on board as well. All these big name apps are a great vote of confidence in BB10. The one app announced today that I am still really waiting on is Skype, and that is probably the most asked for app by BlackBerry users, so it’s great to know it’s coming in the next few weeks. Even with all these apps, there is still work to be done, the BlackBerry World Ecosystem is still nowhere near as strong as that of iOS or Android, but it is growing extremely quickly, and that’s great to see.
